Sale of South Korea's Orion Electric Runs Into Trouble

The sale of South Korea's Orion Electric Co. to a U.S. fund has hit a last-minute snag due to opposition from its largest creditor, putting the deal in peril of being aborted, industry sources said Thursday.

DisplaySearch Launches its New Quarterly OLED Shipment and Forecast Report

Samsung SDI Led in 2004, But RiTdisplay Was #1 in Q4'04

Total shipments in 2004 were 31.2M, up 98%, and revenues were $446.1M, up 77%. The report forecasts shipments, revenues and ASPs by quarter through Q4'06. In addition to passive matrix OLEDs (PMOLEDs), there are four companies producing active matrix OLEDs (AMOLEDs) although the volumes are low due to the low backplane yields. The technology is expected to overcome low backplane yields and other problems in 2005, which should lead to high volumes in 2006

USDC awards contracts for flex substrate, OLED development

MicroContinuum Inc. and Next Sierra have both been awarded contracts each totaling nearly $1 million by the U.S. Display Consortium (USDC) for advanced display process and component development.
MicroContinuum Inc. was awarded a contact to develop a process to pattern conductors on flexible substrates utilizing its roll-to-roll processing technology. MicroContinuum will use the process to form patterns in indium tin oxide (ITO), an optically transparent, conductive material used in display manufacturing.

Next Sierra will use the USDC contract to design and develop two versions of an integrated circuit for AM-OLEDs.
